Acronis True Image Home 2009
The latest backup software from Acronis offers some very powerful features which we have been impressed with during testing sessions here at QualityChecker
Its not just a boring backup package, its also affords several useful features.
- One-click protection
- Full text search
- ZIP support
- Dual backup
- Consolidation
- Auto backup based on destination
- Try&Decide
- Back up your entire PC
- Protect your applications
- Migration tools make upgrades easier
- Security, performance and privacy tools
Lets just cover some of these. Recovery from impact of viruses because Acronis 2009 allows you to take complete system snapshots. These snapshots are kept in a hidden location on your hard drive, even hidden from Viruses. Even in the face of a complete system failure, you can easily make a recovery by using this hidden backup location.
One-Click protection - Not really rocket science, but it does mean you can specify a set of files and directories and have Acronis 2009 backup them up whenever you want, either by manually clicking, or by setting a scheduled.
Full text search - Pretty useful feature allowing users to search for files within the backup archives.
Zip support - But an I bovered! Well some people were, so Acronis have incorporated it into the product. If you’re one of those people, then I’d expect you’ll be jumping for joy.
Dual backup - Backup to two locations instead of one. Well . . . you might want to do this!
Consolidation - Define rules and have two backups merged into one. Saves a lot of disk space, and a good way to manage archives
Auto backup based on destination - So you can have Acronis 2009 set so that when you plug your external hard drive, it automatically starts the backup
Try & Decide - This neat little function allows you to test out potentially imposing or suspect software. Once you’re happy, you can either accept of discard the changes.
Backup your entire PC - This is where the disk imaging kicks in. Acronis 2009 allows you to take a complete disk image or snapshot of your hard drive. Acronis boast their disk imaging as being highly rated. Certainly at QualityChecker we’ve put it through its paces and the disk imaging comes out tops.

When recovering your system hard disk from Acronis Secure Zone, you can start working in seconds while your system is still being restored!
Using the new proprietary Acronis Snap Restore algorithm, Acronis True Image will find sectors, allowing the operating system to boot, and restore them in seconds. After the system boots up, you can start any application or open any file. Acronis True Image will feel what files you need and restore them immediately. You would never guess that they have been restored but not read directly from the hard disk. At the same time, the complete sectorbysector disk restoration will proceed in the background. Finally, the disk will be fully restored even if you perform no actions at all.
But if you choose to start working as soon as possible after a system failure, you will gain at least several minutes. The more the disk size is, the more time you save. In addition, you do not have to set any options, using Acronis Snap Restore, in fact, it performs the so-called one-click restoration. We have setup a video demo of this in action, if you want to know more, please do go ahead and have a look.
Protect your applications - Acronis can be set to backup application settings such as Microsoft Office, iTunes, Windows Media Player and any other installed apps
Migration Tools - These are tools for cloning a PC. So for example, you buy a new hard drive for your PC, this tool will copy everything onto the new drive, that way you dont need to re-install windows.
Security, performance and privacy tools - Here you’re getting Acronis Drive Cleanser, worth $50. It certainly value add, this enables you to no just delete files, but makes them ‘really’ go away. You may already know that simply deleting files doesn’t actually destroy them. They can easily be recovered. Well they were, although not anymore! Back to In The News |
