Turbolinux to bundle Acronis PartitionExpert with Turbolinux 10 Desktop in Japan

Partitioning tool further increases the world-class capabilities of this award-winning Linux distribution

October 1, 2003, South San Francisco, CA — Acronis, Inc., the technological leader in systems software development, announced that its Acronis PartitionExpert software will be bundled with Turbolinux 10 Desktop from Turbolinux Inc., the leading distributor of the Linux operating system in the Asia Pacific region. The Turbolinux agreement was signed with Proton Co. Ltd, Acronis' exclusive partner in Japan.

Acronis Partition Expert is the only disk partitioning utility that boasts both an automated and manual mode of operation that ensure that everyone from average PC users to IT professionals can create, resize and copy disk partitions successfully. The automated mode uses a task-based wizard that takes average users through the steps to create, resize or copy partitions, effectively insulating them from the technology. The manual mode puts all of the features and options at the user's fingertips. It also permits users to create multiple partitions for adding new operating systems to their disk.

"Acronis is closely monitoring and developing products for the growing Linux market," said Max Tsypliaev, president of Acronis. "Our products, unlike most of others that are generally available, provide equally successful storage management in both Windows and Linux".

"This agreement provides Turbolinux users in Japan with best-of-breed disk partitioning software, providing both experienced and relatively new users with the ability to resize the existing Windows partition and create a room for a Linux installation without putting their data at risk. As an added benefit," he noted, "this version of the software has been translated and localized for this market, so it will work seamlessly for the Japanese user. Furthermore, the strategic sales channels of both Proton and Turbolinux help extend the reach of Acronis into new markets."

"The combination of Acronis PartitionExpert and Turbolinux 10 Desktop provide a compelling solution for those users seeking to exploit the power and capabilities of Linux," said Koichi Yano, CEO and President at Turbolinux. "Our agreement with Acronis and Proton, which was reached after a thorough test of partitioning software, will allow us to add an important component of a total systems management solution."

"By bringing together the talents of both Acronis and Turbolinux, Proton is providing a key missing ingredient in the full Turbolinux solution," said Masao Takeda, Managing Director at Proton. Working with quality software vendors makes it easy to provide significantly high quality offerings, and in this case, Turbolinux is able to add the capabilities of one of Acronis' flagship products to its already world-class Linux distribution."

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
