Cowan Insurance Group Standardizes on Acronis True Image Server

September 22, 2004, South San Francisco, CA — Acronis, Inc., the technological leader in storage management software, announced that the Cowan Insurance Group (Cowan) of Waterloo, Ont., Canada, has standardized on Acronis True Image Server 8.0 for Windows and Server 8.0 for Linux, the latest version of Acronis' award-winning disk imaging, disaster recovery and bare-metal backup and restore utility.

The software allows for real-time image creation, which not only reduces creation time, it also drastically reduces server restoration in a disaster recovery situation. This provides a larger window for recovery procedures and gets employees up and running in hours — not days.

"Cowan required a backup and disaster recovery approach that would have no performance impact to our production systems," explained David Thomson, VP Information Technology, Cowan Insurance Group. "Any backup operation that affected the system performance would have adversely affected our ability to assist clients and business partners. We need access to our databases in a timely manner. Acronis provided us with a solution that should help reduce our storage and data management costs while enabling us to respond more quickly to changing business needs."

"While Acronis True Image Server was originally conceived as a solution for the small to midsize business market, the fit with Cowan demonstrates its flexibility in large enterprises that require point-in-time backups of databases," said Max Tsypliaev, president of Acronis Inc. "Ensuring data availability and maintaining peak system performance were the company's key requirements, and Acronis True Image Server met their needs."

In addition to backup and disaster recovery capabilities, Acronis True Image Server also allows Cowan to clone server drives. This is invaluable when expanding a server farm quickly with the minimum of configuration time.

Cowan began the rollout of Acronis True Image Server in August.
