Difficult Made Simple: Deployment

We often find ourselves confused and lost in this trendy innovative computing world.  We use new words, technologies and “innovation” to make computing life much more difficult than it has to be. This was my thought when I started a set of blog posts simply describing new computing trends and technologies. Here is another technology that I would like to simplify – Deployment.

Deployment in terms of software means provisioning operating systems, application software or necessary data to multiple computers, often many at one time. IT organizations all over the world purchase software deployment solutions to automate mass computer provisioning. This becomes especially important when many new hires join the company on the same day, time for global corporate hardware refresh or computer training labs have to be quickly prepared for a new class.

Let me use a quick analogy to simplify this. When you buy a song from iTunes or Google Play, you usually listen to it alone through your iPod or smartphone. You are the only consumer of it at any particular moment in time. A little bit selfish, huh? It all changes when the same song is broadcast over the radio, where multiple people can simultaneously enjoy listening to it. Similarly in deployment, one particular operating system can be broadcast to multiple computers at the same time bringing a multiplied value to the business - the job is much faster and simpler since it does not require an IT admin to sit in front of each computer and manually install the operating system.

Many modern operating systems allow remote installation services, where an operating system is pushed to several machines over the network simultaneously. This however sounds like moving one piece of furniture at a time when you move to a new home.  After you install the operating system you will need to push out e-mail clients, then office software suites, then necessary business files and so on.

This multistage process can be greatly improved with Acronis Snap Deploy 4, as it offers deployment of a fully configured operating system, all necessary application software and any other data at once. Based on Acronis’ award-winning disk imaging technology, Acronis Snap Deploy 4 allows IT admins to create a full image of the desired system configuration (which may include anything they need software-wise) and then simultaneously deploy to all target computers with similar or even completely different hardware.

You expect your IT staff to do something else rather than installing operating systems and software all the time, don’t you? Right, furniture should be shipped all at once. Give Acronis Snap Deploy a try, and provision all of your software at once too!
