Acronis AnyData Technology

Powering the New Generation of Data Protection
Any Data, Any Environment, Any Location

Acronis AnyData Technology revolutionizes modern data protection by enabling best-in-class individual solutions to seamlessly blend into a total solution that protects any Data, across any environment, in any location. Powered by AnyData Technology, Acronis delivers easy, complete and safe backup, disaster recovery, and secure access solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments.

Before Acronis AnyData Technology, organizations had to choose between affordable but incomplete point products, and robust but complex and expensive platforms. Now, Acronis offers a new approach that delivers the best of both worlds – best-in-class individual products that seamlessly blend into a complete backup solution for any combination of workloads and data in present and future, but never more than you need.

For the last 15 years Acronis was working on storage management and system management technologies that enabled AnyData. Our 300+ developers have built many award-winning products that were best in its class – to protect a specific workload or solve a specific data protection task, and we have over 50+ definitive patents for innovative ways to make our products faster, better and easier to use.

Our close-to-the-iron technologies were already working well together – Unified Backup Format enabled Single Pass Backup for capturing any kind of data, but in conjunction with Universal Restore it enabled any kind of migration – virtual to physical, virtual to virtual, VMware to Hyper-V, with no intermediate steps. Used at the boot time during disaster recovery, Active Restore technology would dramatically shorten the time to recovery, whatever was the data or workload.

At the next step, we added thin unified control layer to our products that ensures consistent user experience and seamlessly working products that were already deployed, not just on the level of manipulation of bits, incremental backup chunks, or data being transferred over the wire, but on the level that delivers experience of a single complete backup solution for any type of workload you currently have and may need in the future – and you don’t have to invest into and deploy a complicated generalized platform.

This work is the first result of recently created Acronis R&D labs. Expect more magic to come.

Full Disk and Virtual Machine Imaging

Advanced snapshot-based image backup and recovery of physical and virtual machines. Patented snapshot technology speeds up backup and minimizes system overhead, so protected system does not have to be put off-line during backup.

Unified Backup Format

Data is stored to your choice of disk, tape or cloud using our patented Unified Backup Format optimized for speed, data compression, deduplication and flexibility. High efficiency algorithms reduce storage, IO and CPU requirement and enable unified, fast, easy and granular access to multiple versions of files, applications and systems across all workloads.

Single-pass Block-level Data Management

Eliminates the need for multiple agents for application, file and block-level data capture and dramatically increases speed and efficiency by preserving metadata in Universal Backup Format.

Granular Recovery

From a single-pass backup, granularly recover at the object, file, application or system level.

Centralized Management

Flexible, secure and scalable centralized management, monitoring and reporting across hundreds of virtual and physical machines from a single Acronis Management Server. Easily manage all your backup policies, groups and backup vaults. Backup activities can also be automatically distributed over your backup window to avoid overloading your networks.

Hybrid Cloud and On-Premise Backup

Flexibly backup locally to disk or tape for quick recovery, or to the cloud for Disaster Recovery from a remote location, or to multiple locations. Automatically move backups between locations for varied retention time or long-term archival storage. Chose cloud-based Backup-as-a-Service solutions and let local experts manage your data protection. Same industry leading technology, delivered the way you want it – cloud, hybrid or on-premise.

Room to Grow

AnyData technology has little overhead when you are not using centralized management or using it just for a few machines, but could be scaled up efficiently to support thousands of servers and provides you with flexibility of adding new functionality at any time.

Flexible Recovery Destinations

Restore an entire Windows server to the same location, to new, dissimilar hardware, or to a virtual server. Acronis can restore data locally or remotely (using a Linux Kernel, WinPE, or a PXE server to start the newly recovered server). Acronis’ driver injection and SID change capabilities can restore backups to different hardware without complications.

more features

Active Restore

Tracks operating system I/O requests and restores blocks when the OS needs them, continuing to restore other blocks in the background. This dramatically saves time and allows booting a machine and starting applications long before a restore is complete.

Flexible Any-to-Any Migration

The combination of unified backup format, Acronis Universal Restore, and incremental backup of live machines makes it very easy to migrate servers between any physical, virtual and cloud platforms and any locations, local or remote.

Compression and deduplication

Saves time, space and network bandwidth for any backup

Universal Restore

Bare-metal restore enables recovering an entire server in minutes, either to the same or dissimilar hardware or virtual server. If the new hardware is different, Acronis injects the new drivers required to support the new hardware.

Converting any system backups to any VM Disk format

Effectively enabling zero-time VM recovery, you will just need to start the VM to recover your physical, virtual or cloud system

High-grade encryption (AES-256) is available as option to protect any data and any communication channel from unwanted attention
