Selecting partition and/or hard disk
Work with Disk Editor begins with a hard disk partition and/or the entire disk selection. Detailed information about disks and their partitions is provided for your convenience.
The figure below shows the primary partition of the first system hard disk (marked with a red line) selected for working.

The figure shows Disk Editor's main window in the hexadecimal view mode that is the most universal operating mode of the program.

Disk Editor's main window in the form of a Partition table mode is shown below. Fields in the upper part of the window are specific to Acronis company software, fields in the bottom part represent Partition table records with all their parameters: type, boot patch flags, CHS co-ordinates (Cylinder-Head-Sector), as well as the beginning of each partition and its length in sectors.

The figure below shows Disk Editor positioned on the bootsector of the primary partition in the form of a FAT32 bootsector mode. It also shows bootsector fields (actual data entirely depends on your hard disk).

In the form of a FAT folder mode it is possible to browse and edit records of files (and subfolders) both with "8.3" format names, and with long names, file attributes and parameters such as creation of date and time, last change date, the number of the first file cluster in the File Allocation Table, and others.

Searching hard disks for lines
You can find any line on a hard disk by selecting Search –> Search and entering its char or hexadecimal representation in the Search dialog window. Search can be performed in one of different encodings as well as with match case option or without it.

You can go to any sector of your hard disk according to its absolute number by selecting Search –> Go to... option and entering sector’s number in the Go to sector dialog window.

Having selected a data block in a sector, you can use Edit –> Write to file... option to save these data to a file.
