Two Progress Energy Departments Incorporate Acronis True Image For Disaster Recovery

One of the South's Largest Public Utilities Expands its Installed Base of Acronis Software

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., January 18, 2005 — Acronis, Inc., the technological leader in storage management solutions, announced that the Combustion Turbine and Fossil Generation Departments of Progress Energy, Inc based in Raleigh, NC, and St. Petersburg, FL has incorporated Acronis True Image 8.0 into its process control systems disaster recovery program. The company improved its disaster recovery readiness by upgrading its process control systems' computers to the latest release of the Acronis software.

Progress Energy is one of the nation's largest diversified energy companies, serving almost 3 million customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.

"The Combustion Turbine and Fossil Generation process control systems of Progress Energy are required to have a backup and disaster recovery program that will insure the continued, reliable operation of our generating plants seven days a week, 365 days a year," said John C. Thomas, Progress Energy Controls Engineer. "Acronis True Image exceeds our expectations."

"Acronis recognizes that data is the fuel that energizes corporations," said Max Tsypliaev, CEO of Acronis. "Knowing that Progress Energy will be able to continue operating with minimal interruption no mater what Mother Nature throws at it — or how often she throws it — is why we make our bare-metal restore and backup software the way we do. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes and other natural disasters don't remind you to back up your computers first. Having a plan in place and executing it, as Progress Energy does, is the only way to be prepared."

Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
