Sutton Local Authority (LA) helps schools manage data backup and recovery with Acronis

LONDON, UK – 15 December 2009 – Sutton LA, one of the UK’s top five authorities in school performance and pupil attainment, has announced that it has implemented a centralised, fully automated, unified data backup process for all of its schools and colleges using Acronis.

With educational establishments relying heavily on IT systems and digital data, Sutton LA realised that the backup and recovery strategy used by the borough’s 70 schools and colleges exposed them to unnecessary risk. It decided to implement a centralised backup infrastructure to take the individual responsibility for disaster recovery away from schools and colleges and ultimately remove the potential for serious disruption.

By deploying Acronis, Sutton LA can carry out daily incremental backups on each institution’s server and the six core servers at the LA’s central office, during the day with no impact on server performance. Each incremental backup takes around half an hour and as a result, data is backed up more regularly preventing any significant data loss. Sutton LA also uses Acronis to complete full automated backups each weekend, when a larger window is available.

Daniel Gale, network manager for CYPLS at Sutton LA concludes: “Acronis Software has proven itself in a challenging environment. We rely on the software to restore accidentally deleted data at least once a week, and it has never let us down. The schools and colleges are happy that they don’t have to take responsibility for backing up their data and I’m happy because I’m confident that any lost data can be recovered quickly and efficiently.”
