Frequently Asked Questions
What is RHV (Red Hat Virtualization)?

Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) is an enterprise-class virtualization platform, produced to virtualize business applications in the enterprise data center while achieving performance, resilience and security. Today, most of the organizations are dependent on virtualization technologies owing to the following reasons:

  • Increases the IT productivity
  • Reduced capital owing to less operation costs
  • Elimination of downtime
  • The resources and applications provisioned at a faster rate
  • Enables business continuity in an easier and better way
  • Simplification of data center management
What are the benefits of the agent-based backup?

Agent-based backup is the traditional backup approach. Agent-based backup systems are designed to protect both physical and virtual machines and recover lost, deleted, or corrupted files. A lightweight agent runs at the kernel level of the operating system that needs to be protected. These agents allow backing up selected files or folders inside VMs performing extremely granular file backup and incremental recovery with high performance. Agent-based backup is highly reliable ensuring no single point of failure as an agent continues to run even if a backup management console goes offline.

Which Red Hat Virtualization platforms are supported by Acronis Backup?

Acronis Backup for Red Hat or KVM virtual machines supports following virtualization platforms:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 2.2, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6
  • Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) 4.0, 4.1
  • Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVM)
How many licenses do I need to purchase to back up RHV?

You only need one license for your RHV/KVM virtual host to protect all virtual machines on it. Acronis Backup (Advanced) 12.5 Virtual Host license includes unlimited number of virtual machines running on the target host, protecting the target host itself, as well as protecting the applications running on those virtual machines or on the host.

How do you use Acronis Bootable Media to Boot in RHEV?
