AV-Test certifies Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud a Top Product for Windows security

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud with Advanced Security + EDR joined regular public certification by AV-Test in the Windows corporate security products category and was certified as the Top Product after the January – February round.

Similar to the macOS test, in which Acronis Cyber Protect recently received the best product of 2023 award, Windows certification tests follow the same evaluation criteria: protection, performance and usability are evaluated with a maximum score of 6.0 per each. Protection reflects protection against malware and other attacks. Performance demonstrates the influence of tested products on the speed of the test systems. And usability indicates false alarms and possible slowdowns while using the internet. The tests did not evaluate the EDR / XDR functionality of the products.

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud with Advanced Security + EDR scored 5.5 for protection and 6 for both performance and usability. The requirements to achieve such scores are high; for example, below is the required detection rate in the protection category. As you can see, to score a maximum of 6 points, the product must show a near-perfect detection rate, which is difficult to achieve in real life where threats are constantly evolving.

Up against 278 zero-day malware attacks, Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud achieved an exceptional 99.8% detection rate, inclusive of web and email threats in real-world testing, and received a 5.5 in the protection category. The 99.8% detection rate is the average detection rate for two months; for example, in February, the detection rate was 100%. No product achieves a continuous 100% detection rate, and test results of other products confirm this. However, what is crucial is the consistency of the detection rate; if the detection rate of a product drops from 99% or 100% to 90% or even 95%, the threat detection is inconsistent. For detection of widespread and prevalent malware discovered in the last four weeks (the AV-TEST reference set), Acronis demonstrated a stable 100% detection rate of 15,362 samples.

As previously reported, Acronis is focused on minimizing the number of false positives that can distract administrators and lead to hours of wasted time and lost money. In this AV-Test evaluation, Acronis Advanced Security + EDR produced zero false positives over a span of two months, with the exception of one miss in January: a false detection of legitimate software classified as malware during a system scan of 1,277,682 apps. Keeping in mind the significant number of scanned apps and only one false positive, this is a great result that produced a maximum score for usability.
