Convenience and security are advantages of subscription software

The evolution of software has accelerated tremendously in recent years, particularly as cloud-based solutions have gained popularity. Given the reliability and convenience, cloud-based software has become the norm for both business and personal applications.

This shift from boxed products to software-as-a-service (SaaS) has changed how software is purchased, delivered, and updated. As the value of subscriptions becomes more apparent, that licensing model is becoming the standard for modern software solutions.

MSPs managing cash through a crisis

In the managed service provider (MSP) channel, Forrester tells us that about 25% of service providers are running at break-even, even during great economic times. That means that now, more than ever, it’s critical to be managing cash well. But crisis cash management is different than day-to-day management when profits are high and cash flow is steady.

The fundamentals of managing your business don’t change during a crisis regardless of what causes that crisis. Whether the cause is a natural disaster, ransomware attack, keyman illness, or a pandemic-induced recession like COVID-19, there are real, practical, and effective ways to respond to ensure the survival of your business in the short and long term.

Travelex Hit with Powerful Sodinokibi Ransomware Attack

Sodinokibi ransomware cripples Travelex currency exchange

While most of the world was readying their New Years' Eve celebrations, Travelex was facing a devastating ransomware attack. In the early hours of December 31, the FinabIr-owned foreign exchange company was hit with Sodinokibi, a powerful ransomware strain that rendered Travelex websites in 20 countries inaccessible and left its airport outlets without access to the internet or email.

Travelex IT teams have been working since New Year’s Eve to restore the affected systems and isolate the virus. Travelex has declined to comment on whether it will pay the ransom but, either way, this is not a good look for Travelex.

When Tech Conferences Are Worth The Time and Expense

If you work in an IT operations, cybersecurity or tech leadership role, you probably receive several tempting invitations to industry events and conferences every month. They are usually held in comfortable venues with balmy weather and lots of nearby attractions to entertain family members you might bring along.

Your hosts will probably serve up some good food, drink, and entertainment ... but in a working world where there already aren’t enough hours in a week, how can you justify time away at an event in Vegas or Orlando or some other sunny clime?

Before you ask your boss to pony up precious T&E budget to fund your trip, you should build a business case to justify your attendance – one that lays out the company’s return on the investment of your time.
