Recovering backups by using bootable media remotely

You can recover backed-up workloads, files, and folders by using a bootable media remotely.

Prerequisites

To recover backups by using bootable media remotely

Workloads

  1. Log in to the Cyber Protect console with an account under which a bootable media is registered.
  2. Go to Devices > Bootable media, and then select the bootable media.
  3. Click Recovery.
  4. Select the backup location.
  5. [If prompted] Specify the credentials to access the backup storage, and then click OK.
  6. Select a backup archive and a backup (recovery point) from which you want to recover data.
  7. [If prompted] Specify the backup encryption password.
  8. Click Recover > Entire machine.
  9. [If prompted] Specify the credentials to access the backup storage, and then click OK.
  10. In Recover to, select the type of the target machine.
  11. In Target machine, select the machine that you want to recover, and then click OK.

By default, the workload on which the bootable media runs is selected as target machine.
  12. Configure the disk mapping between the backed-up machine and the target machine.

Changing disk layout may affect the operating system bootability. We strongly recommend that you use the disk layout of the original machine.

    1. [To configure the mapping on a disk level]

      1. Click Disk mapping.

      2. Configure the disk mapping between the backed-up machine and the target machine.

      3. Click Done.

    2. [To configure the mapping on a volume level]

      1. Click Disk mapping, and then, in the upper-right corner, click Switch to volume mapping.

      2. Configure the volume mapping between the backed-up machine and the target machine.

      3. Click Done.

  13. Configure the recovery options, and then click OK. For more information, see Recovery options.
  14. [Only available with Windows-based bootable media when recovering Windows machines on which a protection agent is installed] To join the machine to an Active Directory domain, enable the Rejoin domain switch.

    1. Click the Domain credentials field.

      1. Specify the domain name.

If the backup contains data about the domain name, this field is prepopulated.

      2. Specify the credentials for a user account with domain-joining privileges.

You can specify the user account as <user name>@<domain> or <domain>\<user name>.

      3. Specify an organizational unit.

If the backup contains data about the organizational unit, this field is prepopulated.

      4. Click Done.

As a result, the specified credentials are validated, and if they are correct, the recovered machine will rejoin the domain after the recovery completes.

  15. Click Start recovery.

  16. If you prefer to restart the machine manually after the recovery, clear the Automatically restart the machine, if required checkbox.

  17. To confirm that you want to overwrite the disks of the target machine, click Start recovery.
