While backing up, an agent typically consumes about 350 MB of memory (measured during a 500-GB volume backup). The peak consumption may reach 2 GB, depending on the amount and type of data being processed.

Backup operations, including deleting backups, require about 1 GB of RAM per 1 TB of backup size. The memory consumption may vary, depending on the amount and type of data being processed by the agents.

The RAM usage might increase when backing up to extra large backup sets (4 TB and more).

On x64 systems, operations with bootable media and disk recovery with restart require at least 2 GB of memory.

A management server with one registered agent uses about 702 MB of memory. Each additional agent adds about 2.3 MB. Thus, a server with 100 registered agents consumes approximately 930 MB above the operating system and running applications.

You can register up to 1000 agents on a management server that uses the embedded SQLite database.

You can register up to 8000 agents without significant performance degradation on a management server that uses an external Microsoft SQL Server database. With 8000 registered agents, the SQL Server instance will consume about 8 GB of RAM.

For better backup performance, manage the agents by groups, with up to 500 agents in each group.
