# Pricing and Licensing for Service Providers

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

### How do I know which model is right for a customer?

* **Solution-based licensing** simplifies service delivery with bundled SKUs, making it easier to recommend the right protection.
* **Service-based licensing** gives more granular control, useful if customers want individual services.

### How does storage work?

Storage is included and pooled at the customer tenant level:

* **Microsoft 365**: unlimited backup and archiving storage
* **Servers**: 3 TB per server
* **VMs**: 2 TB per VM
*   **Desktops/laptops**: 300 GB per device

This pool can be shared flexibly across workloads in the same tenant.

### What happens if storage is exceeded?

* **M365**: no overages (storage is unlimited).
* **Servers, VMs, laptops/desktops/workstations**: if backup usage exceeds the pool, overages are billed automatically.
* **All workloads**: DR (hot) storage is included and not billed separately. Orphaned backup data is billed as standard storage.

### What backup features are included by package?

* **M365 Backup + DR**: daily backups and email archiving.
* **M365 Ultimate**: adds advanced backup (up to 6x per day) and collaboration security for OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
* **Servers/VMs Backup + DR**: standard backup + DR with included storage.
* **Laptops/desktops/workstations Backup + DR**: standard backup with 300 GB per device.
* **Ultimate (servers/VMs/desktops)**: adds Advanced Backup (application-aware, cluster support, off-host processing, one-click restore).

### What security features are included by package?

* **M365 Security + RMM**: email security and security posture management.
*   **Servers/VMs Endpoint security + RMM**: anti-malware, anti-ransomware, EDR/XDR, and RMM.
*   **Laptops/desktops/workstations Endpoint security + RMM**: anti-malware, anti-ransomware, EDR/XDR, and RMM.
* **Ultimate (all workloads)**: adds Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and advanced backup features.

### Can I add optional services like MDR or Security Awareness Training (SAT)?

Yes. These are billed separately at standard rates and can be added on top of any package.

### Can I mix solution-based and service-based licensing?

* Each customer tenant must use **one model only**.
* MSPs can mix models across different customers.
* You can switch a customer tenant between models at any time.

## Licensing models

Acronis offers three licensing models. For each customer tenant, you can choose the model that best fits both the customer’s environment and the way you package your services.

Key differences

**Solution-based licensing** bundles services into one SKU per workload, while **service-based licensing** licenses and bills each service separately.

*   Solution-based licensing
* Service-based licensing (per workload and per GB)

### Solution-based licensing streamlines packaging and service sales

Instead of quoting multiple, separate services, you can offer a ready-made solution that combines key capabilities in a single package. This model is often a better fit when a customer needs multiple services, and you want simpler quoting, clearer packaging, and more predictable billing.

### Why to use it

• **One SKU per workload**, instead of multiple line items.
• Packaging that better matches how you position and sell services.
• More predictable billing, with included storage, where applicable.
• Simpler quoting and faster procurement.

### Available packages

• Backup + DR (includes storage)
• Security + RMM
• Ultimate Protection (combines both + additional services)

### How storage works

Included storage is allocated per workload, and is pooled at the customer level.

**For example**, servers add 3 TB, virtual machines add 2 TB, and workstations add 300 GB. In most cases, this covers typical customer needs, which makes the model easier for service providers to position as a flat monthly fee. If storage usage goes beyond the included pool, overages are billed separately. This gives you a clearer way to package backup services, while still allowing room to scale within the customer environment.

### Important notes

• A customer **cannot mix solution-based and service-based licensing** within the same tenant.
• Additional services, such as MDR and SAT, are **billed separately**, where applicable.

### Service-based licensing offers more granular control

You can either bill a fixed price per protected workload, or bill based on the amount of protected data. This model is useful when you want to price individual services separately, or tailor billing more closely to usage patterns. Each customer tenant can use only one licensing model at a time, but you can choose different models for different customers and switch anytime.

### Per workload (WL)

With service-based per-workload licensing for backup, **you pay a fixed, monthly price for each protected workload**. This model is usually a good fit when a customer has fewer devices or workloads, but more data on each one. It gives you predictable pricing at the workload level, and is often easier to position in device-based service offers.

**Key points**
• Fixed monthly cost per protected workload.
• No charge for local storage or service provider storage.
• Lower storage cost for supported native cloud options.
• Applies specifically to backup licensing; other services such as security, RMM, and similar add-ons are licensed separately, typically per workload as their own services.

### Per GB

With service-based, per-GB licensing for backup, **you pay based on the total amount of protected data**. This model is often a better fit when a customer has many workloads with relatively small amounts of data. It helps align cost more closely to actual storage usage.

**Key points**
• Billing based on protected storage volume.
• Charges apply across cloud, service provider, and local storage.
• No limit on the number of workloads.

## Commitments and tiers

Acronis uses a minimum monthly commitment model. You select a commitment tier as part of your agreement.

Higher tiers improve pricing, through volume-based discounts. If your usage grows beyond your current tier, you can move to a higher tier in the following month. This model gives you room to scale gradually, while improving economics as your cloud business grows. If you subscribe through a distributor, commitment terms may differ.

## Partner vs customer setup

*
Partner level

    * One commitment across all customers
    * You can use all licensing models under that commitment
    *   Mix models across customers

*
Customer level

    * One licensing model per customer
    * All workloads in that customer follow the same model
    * Model can be changed at any time

## Licensing by service

Each service in Acronis Cyber Platform is licensed differently. The model depends on how the service is used: per device, per user, or based on storage consumption. This section explains how billing works in practice.

### Data protection

### Backup (servers, VMs, workstations, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace)

Backup can be licensed in two ways. You can either pay a fixed monthly price per protected workload (device or seat), or you can pay based on the total amount of storage used. This gives you flexibility to align pricing with how your customers consume backup.

### Disaster Recovery (DR)

* **Service-based licensing**: DR is billed separately. Storage is charged for the amount of DR data stored, while compute resources and public IP addresses are charged only when failover or test environments are running and IPs are assigned.
* **Solution-based licensing (servers and VMs)**: DR is included in the Backup + DR and Ultimate Protection packages. Only Acronis Cloud compute points and public IP addresses are billed separately, simplifying packaging and quoting while charging variable infrastructure costs only when needed.

### Email Archiving

Email Archiving can be billed **either per user or based on storage usage**. The model depends on how the service is deployed, and which storage option is used.

### Cloud storage (backup and archive storage)

In service-based models, storage is billed based on actual usage (per GB). In solution-based licensing, storage is included within defined limits, and is shared across workloads at the customer level.

### Geo-redundant and archival storage

These storage options are billed based on the amount of data stored. Some options include minimum retention periods, which should be considered when planning long-term storage.

### Direct Backup to Public Cloud

This service is billed per device, and extends standard backup by allowing direct backup to public cloud providers. It requires backup to be enabled.

### Cybersecurity

### Endpoint Protection (EDR / XDR)

Endpoint protection is **licensed per device**. If you enable XDR, it already includes EDR capabilities, so you are not charged twice for overlapping functionality.

### Managed Detection and Response (MDR)

MDR is an add-on service that is **billed per protected device**. It builds on top of existing security services, and adds managed threat detection and response.

### Email Security

Email Security is **licensed per user**. Each active Microsoft 365 user with protection enabled is counted, while shared mailboxes are not billed separately.

### Collaboration App Security

This service is also **billed per user**. It protects collaboration tools - such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint - under a single, user-based license.

### Security Awareness Training (SAT)

SAT is **licensed per registered user**. Users are counted when they are added to the training program, regardless of how actively they use it.

### Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

DLP is **billed per device**. Each protected endpoint that uses DLP functionality is counted as a licensed workload.

### Management and operations

### Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM)

RMM is typically **billed per device**. In environments such as Microsoft 365, it can also apply per user (seat), depending on how it is deployed.

### Professional Services Automation (PSA)

PSA is **licensed per MSP user**. This means that you pay based on how many internal users in your organization access the PSA system. A minimum number of users may apply.

### Infrastructure

### Cyber Frame Cloud

Cyber Frame Cloud is **billed based on the infrastructure resources you actually use**. Charges apply to consumed vCPU, RAM, block storage, S3 object storage, public floating IP addresses, and Windows Server licenses.

Usage is metered hourly and rolled up into the monthly bill, so costs scale with the resources allocated to each environment. This makes Cyber Frame Cloud a practical option for partners that want to launch infrastructure services without investing in their own hardware or managing the underlying platform.

### Cyber Frame Local

Cyber Frame Local is billed differently. Instead of charging for virtual resources, **billing is based on the number of physical CPU cores and the amount of usable cluster storage**.

This model is better suited to partners that want to run Cyber Frame on their own infrastructure, keep more control over data location and platform economics, and build longer-term margins on top of their existing environment.
