BACKGROUND / INTRODUCTION

William Goldstein is an acclaimed American composer, pianist and recording artist whose musical genius has graced both the concert hall and screen. He is a Grammy nominee and three-time Emmy nominee. Best known for his work on the NBC television series “Fame” and his contributions to shows like “Twilight Zone,” he also has 50 movies and 70 albums online to his credit. In addition, he was a recording artist at CBS Masterworks and, in 1975, was brought to Motown Records by founder Berry Gordy, after he heard Goldstein’s theme for ABC-TV’s weekday morning show, AM America. His first and biggest hit was “Midnight Rhapsody,” and his top album was “Motown Magic Disco Machine Vol. II.”
Goldstein has established himself as a versatile and innovative musical voice. His remarkable talent for “instant composition” — creating complete musical pieces spontaneously in real time — distinguishes him as a unique artist who bridges classical tradition with improvisational brilliance.
Beyond his composition work, Goldstein was one of the founding directors of the California State Summer School for the Arts Program for talented high school students and maintains an influential presence in the contemporary music landscape. His captivating piano performances and recordings continue to inspire audiences and musicians alike.

THE CHALLENGE

Given his line of work, dedication and achievements, Goldstein needed a reliable backup solution that was flexible, easy to use and could be automated. His audio and video files are critically important to his work, and they cannot be recreated. There is also an emotional element to protecting his audio files, which puts additional stress on the criticality and importance of creating a reliable backup.

CHALLENGES

  • Keeping his work safe and sound and have a backup of it in case of a disaster.
  • Keeping his data protected and available.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Backup of important audio files and documents.
  • Flexibility to replace a hard disk when it’s full and keep a copy of data.
  • Recovery of a hard disk without compromising data integrity and accuracy.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Easy to set up automated backups to protect his created work and files.
  • Backups are restored exactly as they were.
  • Being able to perform incremental backups.

THE SOLUTION

“I had several occasions where I needed to do a complete restore due to system failures. Luckily, I had a complete backup at hand, so I was able to restore everything,” Goldstein says.
He added, “I had set up a new laptop at home, including all the software I needed to be able to do my work. Not long after, I had to be in New York for work, and for that reason, I brought only one external hard drive with me for my Acronis backups. The brand-new laptop crashed, and I was not able to open the unit. Luckily enough, I had created a backup with Acronis True Image so I could do a complete restore of the laptop and make the correction that had caused it to crash.”
“I do daily backups of my work files and C drive, as well as every other week backups of my audio and video data. I back up incrementally and am using mainly external hard drives for my backups because of the large size of the files. It is so easy to use and set up,” Goldstein remarked. “Whenever I get stuck with something, the support team of Acronis is there to help and sort things out. They are the best.”

THE BENEFITS

“I’ve been a happy Acronis user for 10 years. It gives me peace of mind as I always have access to a backup of my important audio files. Also, they offer great support,” said Goldstein.
“The backups I make with Acronis True Image are part of my life. They make it possible for me to access my work and be able to get back to it.”
