Error handling

When a backup fails

This topic applies to local and network backups only. For cloud backup error options, see Error handling for Cloud backups and replicas.

In backup settings, go to Options > Advanced > Error handling.

To set up error handling, configure one or more of the following options:

  • Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode) - Ignores errors and continues the backup. Useful for unattended operations.
  • Ignore bad sectors - For disk and partition backups only. Completes backup even if bad sectors are found on the source disk.
  • When not enough space in ASZ, delete the oldest backup - Deletes the oldest backup in Acronis Secure Zone when free space is insufficient.
  • Repeat attempt if a backup fails - Automatically retries a failed backup. Set the number of attempts and the interval between attempts.

If the error persists, the backup will fail after all retry attempts are used.

Scheduled backups will not start until all retry attempts complete.
