Backup & Disaster Recovery

Warning: The steps described below work only if you're using the same version. You cannot use this method to backup & recover from different versions.

e.g.: If you backup 8.0.4 and install 8.0.4 again, you can use the recovery, but if you install 8.0.5 you won't be able to use this method.

Backup and Recovery for a single server

Backup

To backup your current Access Connect setup, you must do the following:

  1. Open the registry editor (Open a command prompt and type regedit).
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ExtremeZ-IP\
  3. Right click on the ExtremeZ-IP folder and press Export.
  4. Save the registry backup some place safe (other machine, flash drive, etc.) in case the server fails.
  5. Backup all shared folders (copy them on another machine, etc.).
  6. If you have a license key, write it down. You can find the key in the Licensing tab of the Access Connect user interface or in the registry at: 


For a 64bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Group Logic, Inc.\ExtremeZ-IP\7.0\
For a 32bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Group Logic, Inc.\ExtremeZ-IP\ 7.0\

To backup your current Access Connect clustered setup, you must do the following:

  1. Open the registry editor (Open a command prompt and type regedit).
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\<instance>

    Note: <instance> should be replaced by the name of your clustered Acronis Access instance on the current server.

  3. Right click on the <instance> folder and press Export.
  4. Save the registry backup some place safe (other machine, flash drive, etc.) in case the server fails.
  5. Backup all shared folders (copy them on another machine, etc.).
  6. If you have a license key, write it down. You can find the key in the Licensing tab of the Access Connect user interface or in the registry at:

Recovery

To recover your settings:

  1. Import the registry backup(s) to the registry.
  2. Paste the folders you previously had shared (or create them again, but they should be in the same place with the same permissions).
  3. Install a fresh copy of Access Connect (the same version you had before).
  4. Input your license key.
