Converting a user to a service account

Service user accounts can use services that do not support 2FA.

Only customer tenant users can be service accounts.

To convert a user to a service account

  1. Navigate to the tenant.

  2. Go to My Company > Users.

    The user list appears.

  3. Hover over the user, and then click the ellipsis icon in the Name column.

  4. Select Mark as service account.

  5. [If at least one user within a tenant has configured two-factor authentication] Enter the TOTP code generated in the authentication application on your second-factor device to confirm disabling.

When resetting the two-factor authentication for a user, you must enter the Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) from your own second-factor device, and not the user's. This means that you, as the logged-in user performing the reset, must authenticate the action as a confirmation step by using your own credentials for two-factor authentication.

As a result, the user gets a special 2FA status in the user list of 'Service account'.

To convert back to a regular account

  1. Navigate to the tenant.

  2. Go to My Company > Users.

    The user list appears.

  3. Hover over the user, and then click the ellipsis icon in the Name column.

  4. Click Mark as regular account.

As a result, the user will have to set up 2FA again or provide the TOTP code when entering the system.
