Validation
You can validate a backup to verify that you can recover the data.
Validation confirms that the backup data is consistent and that the backed-up system can be successfully recovered.
You can validate backups by using a local or a cloud validation plan. Local validation plans require an agent installed in your environment and, for screenshot validation and VM heartbeat, access to an ESXi or Hyper-V host. Cloud validation plans run on cloud infrastructure – no on-premises agents or hypervisor required.
Local
When you validate a backup, you apply a validation method to a backup archive or backup location. Validation of a backup location validates all archives in this location.
To validate a backup as an off-host data processing operation, you must create a validation plan. For more information, see Creating a validation plan.
To validate a backup without creating a validation plan, follow the procedure in Validating backups.
Cloud
Backup validation in the cloud is available at no additional charge for up to 10 backup archives per two-week period. To validate more archives, consider automated test failover in Disaster Recovery.
To validate backups in the cloud, you must create a cloud validation plan.
Backup validation in the cloud supports only the Acronis-hosted cloud storage. Partner storages are not supported. Only backup archives version 12 are supported.
Backup validation in the cloud supports the same guest operating systems as virtual machines on Cyber Frame. For the full list, see Supported guest operating systems in the Cyber Frame Administrator Guide.
Backup validation in the cloud is not available for tenants in Compliance mode. It is available only on datacenters where Disaster Recovery is enabled.
Backup validation in the cloud runs virtual machines with reduced resources of 4 vCPU and 16 GB RAM. Large virtual machines might not boot successfully. For those workloads, consider Automated Test Failover with Disaster Recovery.
