File-level security

This option is applicable when recovering files from disk-level and file-level backups of volumes formatted with file systems that support permissions. Examples include NTFS and ReFS on Windows, and ext4, XFS, JFS, ReiserFS, and F2FS on Linux.

This option defines whether to recover file permissions for the recovered files.

The preset is: Enabled.

If this option is enabled, the original file permissions (such as NTFS ACLs on Windows or POSIX permissions on Linux) are recovered. If this option is disabled, the files inherit the permissions from the folder to which they are recovered.

File systems that do not support permissions, such as FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT, are not supported by this option.

File permissions cannot be recovered when the backup is stored on an SMB network share and the files are recovered to a different location. This is because SMB shares do not fully support the file permission attributes that are required for this option.
