Cyber Frame licensing

Cyber Frame is a secure, AI-powered hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) solution that enables service providers to deliver virtual machines, virtual networks, and storage to their customers. Cyber Frame is built on OpenStack, and it provides native multitenancy with tenant isolation. Cyber Frame is natively integrated into Cyber Protect Cloud, which adds backup, disaster recovery, security, and remote monitoring and management.

Virtual machine licensing

Virtual machines that run on a Cyber Frame cluster are automatically classified as Cyber Frame virtual machines by the platform, regardless of the infrastructure type (Cyber Frame Cloud or Cyber Frame Local). This means:

  • Cyber Frame virtual machines are tracked in a dedicated usage bucket, separate from other workloads.
  • Standard Protection, Advanced Backup, Direct Backup to Public Cloud, RMM, and Detection and Response (EDR/XDR) are included in the Cyber Frame license at no additional charge.
  • Managed Detection and Response (MDR) is available as a paid add-on for all licensing models.
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and GenAI Protection are available as paid add-ons on service-based licensing only. They are not available for Cyber Frame virtual machines on solution-based licensing.
  • Backup to storage that is hosted in datacenters is billed at the standard rate.
  • Partner-hosted backup storage and customer-owned backup storage are included in the cost of Cyber Frame virtual machines.
  • Partner-hosted Disaster Recovery (hybrid) is included in the cost of Cyber Frame virtual machines.

Backup storage usage

Backup storage that is used by Cyber Frame virtual machines is tracked under a dedicated usage type. It is separate from other backup storage. This applies to both agentless and agent-based backups of Cyber Frame virtual machines, and prevents customers from being billed for Cyber Frame virtual machine backup storage on top of the resources that are already covered by the Cyber Frame license.

Migrating from Virtuozzo Infrastructure or Cyber Infrastructure

If you previously used Virtuozzo Infrastructure or Cyber Infrastructure and had virtual machines that were protected through a manually deployed virtual appliance, those virtual machines are automatically reclassified as Cyber Frame virtual machines after the cluster is registered. From that point, they are covered by the Cyber Frame license and are no longer billed as standard backup workloads.

Infrastructure licensing

Cyber Frame Cloud

The cluster infrastructure is licensed based on consumed resources. Virtual CPUs, RAM, block storage, floating IP addresses, and Windows Server licenses are metered continuously and billed per month. For more information, see Cyber Frame usage reporting.

Cyber Frame Local

The cluster infrastructure is licensed based on the number of physical CPU cores across all nodes in the cluster. For more information, see Cyber Frame usage reporting.

Windows Server licensing

Cyber Frame Cloud

The Windows Server licenses offering item tracks the number of vCPUs allocated to Windows Server virtual machines in each customer tenant. This offering item is available for Cyber Frame Cloud only.

Cyber Frame Cloud does not provide a Windows Server license for a machine that customers recover or convert into Cyber Frame Cloud from another platform, or that customers create from a custom image. Only virtual machines that customers create from Cyber Frame Cloud Windows Server images, other than the BYOL images, receive a Windows Server license. For the other machines, customers must provide their own Windows Server license, activate Windows with their own product key, and ensure that the license permits use in a shared, multi-tenant cloud environment under the current Microsoft licensing terms. These machines do not report usage for the Windows Server licenses offering item.

A virtual machine that customers create from a Cyber Frame Cloud Windows Server image, other than a BYOL image, keeps its Windows Server license when customers migrate, recover, or convert it within Cyber Frame Cloud, including to another cluster. This machine continues to report usage for the Windows Server licenses offering item.

Cyber Frame Cloud also provides BYOL (Bring Your Own License) variants of the Windows Server Standard and Datacenter images, for 2019, 2022, and 2025. A BYOL image ships without a Windows Server license. Customers apply their own product key after they create the virtual machine, and these virtual machines do not report usage for the Windows Server licenses offering item.

To bring their own Windows Server licenses to Cyber Frame Cloud under the Microsoft Flexible Virtualization Benefit, customers must hold eligible Windows Server subscription licenses, or Windows Server licenses with active Software Assurance.

Cyber Frame Cloud does not provide licenses or subscriptions for any other software. Customers are responsible for the license or subscription of the operating system, and of any other commercial software in the images that they upload, and in the machines that they recover or convert into Cyber Frame Cloud.

Cyber Frame Local

Use hard placements in the Cyber Infrastructure admin panel to control the placement of Windows Server virtual machines on physical nodes. For more information about hard placements, see Placement modes in the Cyber Infrastructure Administrator's Guide.

The Windows Server licenses offering item is not available for Cyber Frame Local. Partners are responsible for managing their own Microsoft licensing.
