Aruba and Acronis Partner to Deliver New Cloud Bare Metal Backup Service

The service is designed for Private Cloud customers and is based on Acronis technology, enables users to backup vApps and VMs through an intuitive web control panel

SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland, 04 September 2015 - Aruba S.p.A. (www.aruba.it), a leader in web hosting, email, PEC services and domain registrations, and Acronis (www.acronis.com), a global leader in new generation data protection, today announced availability of the new Aruba Cloud Bare Metal Backup service, which allows businesses to perform complete backups of their Private Cloud virtual machines through an easy-to-use web-based control panel. The new service is based on the leading Acronis full image backup technology.

The Aruba Cloud Bare Metal Backup service works in virtual hypervisor environments, avoiding the need to install backup agents on individual virtual machines that need to be protected. The Cloud Bare Metal Backup service can be used in addition to the Aruba Cloud Backup service, which together provide complete protection of virtual machines, from the full image of the machine to the application-level and file system-level.

The new backup service is based on Acronis technology and is designed to make it easy for businesses to backup vApps and virtual machines (VMs) through a simple web control panel that enables complete control by the business user, including:

· Setting preferred schedules and persistence

· Scheduling when to restore both entire backed-up machines and single files of that same machine

· Reconfiguring restored virtual machines, changing the network, hostname, CPU and memory settings, or cloning it on a new vApp.

The service is provided with the granularity of the single Virtual Machine and includes 200GB of web space for each machine. The backup technology integrates with the hypervisor of the Private Cloud service and the protection mechanisms offered by VMware, guaranteeing consistency and performance. It also includes native integration with Microsoft's VSS (with VMware tools) to ensure application-level consistency.

As part of the new service, Aruba offers Private Cloud customers two different support options: phone support and support via a Ticketing System.

"Cloud Bare Metal Backup is the ideal tool for customers looking for total security," said Stefano Cecconi, CEO of Aruba. "The service works at a hypervisor level capturing an image of the virtual machine. Using both Cloud Bare Metal Backup together with our Cloud Backup service based on Acronis offers application-level visibility of what is running on the VM and allows for total backup protection."

"Our new offering with Aruba provides a powerful multi-tier, multi-tenant, self-service backup and disaster recovery (DR) solution, enabling cloud owners to establish industry-leading Backup as a Service (BaaS) for their tenants", said Mauro Papini, Country Manager Acronis Italia.
