Based in Belgium, Corilus is a leading provider of software solutions, e-health services and information and communication technology (ICT) solutions for the health care sector, operating primarily in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. The company specializes in practice management systems, communication tools, electronic patient records, data exchange and billing systems.

Corilus serves a wide range of health care professionals, including pharmacists, general practitioners, nurses, midwives, dentists, ophthalmologists and, physiotherapists. Its solutions are also used in health care centers, hospitals, laboratories and elderly homes.

Corilus tailors its digital health care solutions to the unique needs of each sector. Some clients operate within a zero-touch model, independently managing the software. Others prefer a managed services model with Corilus administering the system. Still other organizations choose a co-managed model, which involves a collaborative effort between Corilus and the client's IT team.

The challenge

With no remote monitoring and management (RMM) solution in place, Corilus had to deal with a lack of real-time visibility and proactive system management. Without an RMM system, health care providers and IT teams struggled with manual troubleshooting, delayed issue resolution and inefficient resource allocation. The absence of automated monitoring led to unplanned downtime, security vulnerabilities and reactive maintenance, rather than a preventative approach.

The company sought an RMM solution due to the growing complexity of digital health care infrastructure, increased demand for system reliability and the need to streamline IT operations.

The solution

Corilus chose Acronis RMM as part of a broader strategy to unify fragmented legacy solutions. Previously, multiple disconnected systems — including TrendMicro, RG Systems, Veritas, Altaro and Veeam — created complexity for both internal operations and customer experience. The goal was to streamline management and offer clients a simplified, all-in-one solution that covers the functionalities of these existing tools.

RMM wasn't the initial focus. Corilus strategically bundled security and management solutions from Acronis, giving every customer the opportunity to benefit from enhanced security and proactive IT management. This approach enabled Corilus to deliver better service, improve system oversight and optimize management efficiency.

The results

Corilus chose Acronis in large part because Acronis RMM offered a unified console for management and deployment with a single agent. All of the company’s critical information on client systems is available in one streamlined report. Since adopting Acronis RMM, Corilus has streamlined issue resolution. For example, the company fixed a pharma software patch issue overnight using scripting and avoided hours of manual work.

Improved patching processes lead to greater reliability

With Acronis RMM, patching is more controlled and reliable, reducing the uncertainty of relying solely on Microsoft's automatic update policy. Previously, Corilus deployed updates without oversight. With Acronis, Corilus can ensure safe and timely patching. For example, Corilus can actively monitor patch deployments and intervene when necessary.

Automatic patch approval in Acronis RMM streamlines updates, saves time and reduces complexity. When large issues arise, the company can intervene in the patching process and deploy critical fixes efficiently.

In the Corilus model, clients review reports and identify whether they need to take action. The patch review and approval process has improved reliability for clients, who now receive clear reports on whether their devices are up to date. They no longer need to juggle multiple tools and consult disparate reports to monitor their systems. A unified approach to patching and security and a single, comprehensive report ensure greater visibility while enabling clients to take the initiative in maintaining system performance.

Acronis RMM improves client system visibility

Before Acronis RMM, Corilus could only address issues when customers reported problems. This approach often led to delays in resolution and increased workloads for support teams. With Acronis, customers now have greater visibility and can identify potential issues proactively, improving overall efficiency and responsiveness.

Implementing Acronis RMM has enabled Corilus to improve infrastructure visibility significantly. Corilus can now clearly track workloads at both the business unit and customer level. This enhanced visibility allows for better resource allocation, proactive decision making and more efficient management across all environments.

Corilus discovers and mitigates a long-existing risk with EDR / XDR

Integrating Acronis RMM with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) from the Acronis EDR and Acronis XDR solutions has significantly enhanced cybersecurity for Corilus’ clients, including detection of hacking tools running on a workload.

Acronis RMM flagged repeated failed login attempts, quickly revealing the attack’s origin — a remote desktop port (RDP) forward left active for 10 years on the provider’s firewall. This combination of real-time security monitoring and infrastructure visibility enabled Corilus to efficiently pinpoint and mitigate such risks.
