Simple Backup for Busy People
Storage can be an embarrassment of riches these days. You take pictures and have them stored on Picasa or Flickr or Instagram or Twitter or Facebook. You have Powerpoints spread across Skydrive and Google Docs and Dropbox and Slideshare. Then you have your resume on LinkedIn and maybe Monster or Dice. And you have all sorts of web pages stored on Evernote and Dropbox and probably a bunch of them in your mail. And you may have scanned a number of important papers, passports, credit card numbers, and have them tucked away in a few places too. And my tunes, I may be able to reload some of them, but I have a large collection of tunes I would hate to lose. Oh, movies too. And originals of some youtubes I have uploaded. I have a lot of stuff now that I think of it. Oh, my financial records and tax documents. And health records. I really have a lot of documents these days.

REAL Self-Service Backup for vCloud
Our good friend, Massimo, recently blogged about challenges backing up vCloud. The fact is that until Acronis Backup & Recovery for vCloud came along, no solutions existed that would allow tenants to backup and recover their virtual machines on their own, with self-service, without manual operations from vCloud administrators.

Beyond MDM and MFM: What’s Next for BYOD?
In the not-so-distant past, company information, files and data were confined to the four walls of the organization. After 5 p.m., and on weekends and holidays, this information was largely inaccessible to the average employee. Now, the availability of company data is seen in an entirely different light, with employees accessing files from three or four different devices any day of the week.

Is BYOD the Best or Worst Thing That’s Happened to the Channel Market
“Turning a blind eye” is an age old idiom that describes the act of ignoring undesirable information. And, according to our 2013 Data Protection Trends Research, it seems to be the attitude many IT professionals have taken towards the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement.

When Managing BYOD, Companies Shouldn’t Forget About BYOC
It’s basically a given that, today, employees are going to bring their own mobile devices to the office and use them for work. But, right now, a lot of companies are struggling with these bring-your-own-device (BYOD) habits. Our 2013 Data Protection Trends Research, which surveyed more than 4,300 IT professionals around the world, found that nearly 60 percent of companies don’t have BYOD policies in place. This can certainly present security issues and risks for data leakage, but BYOD trends also encourage something else: bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC).

Simple Steps to Network Security: Device Passwords and Key Locks
Allowing employees to use their personal mobile devices for work can provide a multitude of advantages: productivity, simpler connectivity, access to the resources they need from virtually anywhere. But along with the benefits, bring your own device (BYOD) opens the door to risks, including security vulnerabilities, data leakage, compliance and potential liability issues. The magnitude of the problem is big, considering millions of these devices are lost, stolen or misplaced every year (120 thousand phones were lost in Chicago taxi cabs alone last year…).

5 Mac Compatibility Misconceptions, Demystified
1. My existing files won’t be compatible While the file system on Mac hard drives is different than on Windows PC, the actual files on both systems are basically the same. Files can be moved from a PC to a Mac without issue.

Acronis Launches 2013 Data Protection Trends Research
“Bring your own device” (BYOD) started out as just a buzzword, but it has now become a full blown phenomenon that businesses, both large and small, are challenged with every day. As employees increasingly use personal devices like smartphones, tablets and Mac® computers in the workplace, they may unknowingly be putting company data at risk without the proper BYOD policies and training. And, while these data protection issues and concerns aren’t new, companies are surprisingly still in the very early stages of protecting mobile data.

The BYOD Balancing Act
With Gartner expecting the mobile device management (MDM) market to be worth $1.6 billion by 2014, it’s obvious that the industry has become very prominent. But, the MDM market is still evolving at a feverish pace. Just take a look at the average employee’s bring-your-own-device (BYOD) habits. Smartphones, tablets and laptops are all part of one big mix during the work day. Thanks to the growth and of mobile devices and the emergence of more mobility apps  the needs of the mobile enterprise and their users is quickly evolving from being device-centric to being data-centric.

Any-to-Any Hypervisor Image Recovery

Any-to-Any Hypervisor Image Recovery
Hypervisor server diversification is becoming a key initiative for many businesses. In an effort to lower licensing costs by introducing competition for their hypervisor footprint, many organizations may be unwittingly taking on the potential burden of added infrastructure management, higher costs and increased backup complexity of their virtualized environment. On the other hand, if data centers had the ability to transparently migrate data from one hypervisor to another, many of these issues would be eliminated. As a result, any-to-any hypervisor recovery is becoming a critical requirement for data centers looking to drive down costs and increase flexibility.

What VDI Solutions Are Overlooking in a BYOD World
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) has been around for years, but the high cost of deployment and issues of scale and performance have traditionally kept most small and mid-size enterprises from adopting the technology. But, the recent boom in mobile technology – along with dramatic improvements in VDI – has changed the landscape a bit. With BYOD becoming more prevalent, some are pushing VDI as a solution to access their work “computer” from any device and any location.

What’s Your BYOD Prescription?
With 81 percent of employees bringing personal devices into the workplace, it is no secret that the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon has set up shop in the corner office of the enterprise. And, with 60 percent of physicians using their mobile phone in the workplace on a daily basis, BYOD has clearly already checked itself into the healthcare industry, as well.
