Acronis Deduplication Calculator Measures Storage Savings; New Competitive Upgrade Program Saves Up to 50 Percent

With drop in storage costs of up to 99 percent, first-year deduplication savings are likely to exceed cost of software

Driven by overwhelming customer acceptance for the data deduplication capabilities in its new disaster recovery product, Acronis Backup & Recovery® 10, Acronis® Inc. (www.acronis.com) has unveiled an online calculator to quickly estimate the storage savings an organization could realize using deduplication to cut storage requirements. In many cases, the savings from deploying deduplication will more than cover the software's cost.

As an example of the benefits of deduplication, a customer with 10 servers and 2TB of data that changes 5 percent per day and is kept for four weeks, will save about $20,000 in storage costs annually. Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 and a premium support package would cost only $17,000.

The leading provider of storage management and disaster recovery software, Acronis also announced a limited-time competitive upgrade program of as much as 50 percent off for customers using other backup solutions that move to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, currently shipping. The program, coupled with Acronis' license-based pricing, drops the cost of entry to data deduplication to as much as 1/20th of software-based alternatives, most of which do not offer the backup speed or storage savings efficiency of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, and 1/100th of appliance-based alternatives. The software's new deduplication starts at a list price of only $28 (US) per machine.

"Not only is Acronis taking the bold step of moving into full-featured data protection and disaster recovery, but they are leaping ahead of many of their competitors by realizing the pivotal importance of versatile and affordable deduplication," said Jeff Boles, Senior Analyst, Taneja Group. "The Acronis deduplicating data protection suite looks poised to both address backup bottlenecks, and optimize stored backup data across the many different types of IT systems at work in businesses today-from the virtual to the physical. Simultaneously, Acronis seems to be ringing in a new age for widespread deduplication by breaking the requirement for capacity-based licensing. Acronis' per server based deduplication seems bound to help make deduplication obtainable for any business."

The deduplication calculator prompts the user for the number of servers and workstations being backed up, the data change rate, and the cost of data storage. Based on that information, the user gets estimates of how much storage space would be saved through deduplication, the dollar savings, and the percentage of savings.

In announcing Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, Acronis expanded its award-winning, patented disk imaging and bare-metal restore technology to meet the needs of both small and large organizations through a new user interface, enhanced operations manageability, and increased scalability.

"Acronis Backup & Recovery 10's new integrated data deduplication and impressive group policy management capabilities make this product unique. The software deduplication offers similar compression rates to appliance-based deduplication solutions and has vastly decreased the volume of backups, in turn reducing storage space requirements," said Marko Tarvainen, a global telecom specialist Finn Telecom, a beta tester of the product. "In addition, the new central management console and intuitive interface makes it much easier to oversee tasks."

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 is capable of backing up and restoring any Microsoft or Linux-based servers or workstations to their full operating state prior to any failure, including complete restoration of the files, operating system, applications, updates, settings, configuration, and any other data. It is immediately available directly from Acronis (sales@acronis.com) partners (https://www.acronis.com/partners), and at www.acronis.com,. Prices ranges from $74 (US) to $3171 (US) per machine and include the first year of Acronis® Advantage® Premier support and maintenance with each license.

"Since our announcement, we've seen an explosion of interest in data deduplication from both Acronis customers and users of other technologies. Our competitive upgrade program is designed to extend the same first-class support to new customers as our installed base has come to expect from Acronis," said Jason Donahue, CEO Acronis.
