International Data Corporation (IDC) recently reviewed the innovative functionality of Acronis Backup 12.5, noting its relevance for modern, heterogeneous, hybrid, and multi-cloud business IT environments.

The global industry research leader published an IDC Market Note titled “Acronis Backup 12.5: Transforming Data Protection with Blockchain Tech, Ransomware Protection, and Quick Insights,”(doc ##EMEA42880317, July 2017) where it recognized Acronis for producing a game-changing technology designed to help enterprises to “break away from using siloed backup and protection solutions for each environment” to reduce the complexities and costs associated with business backup.

Acronis Backup 12.5 is the only solution that is able to offer Oracle backup and recovery, bare metal recovery automation, SAN storage snapshots, and disaster recovery capabilities across 21 platforms, including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, Citrix, Oracle, mobile operating systems, and hosted environments. It’s an all-in-one package that offers easy management, user roles and delegations, monitoring, and reporting capabilities.

The IDC Market Note states that Acronis Backup 12.5 is “aimed at helping users consolidate the management and protection of data regardless of its physical location or application deployment model.”

The IDC Market Note continued, “IDC believes this is a significant release for the overall data protection market as it heralds a change in backup and data protection technologies, aiming it at the modern, heterogeneous enterprise IT environment.”

Next generation features

As part of the assessment, IDC noted that ransomware protection, blockchain-based data verification, and a simpler interface are the key “next-gen features” of this innovative product.

Using artificial intelligence-based technology, machine learning, and behavioral heuristics, Acronis Active Protection easily detects ransomware, suspends malicious process and instantly restores any encrypted data. IDC sees that protection as a valuable addition to businesses that don’t have allocated resources to maintain workstations backups. This automated ransomware protection provides “proactive security that is relevant in the dynamic IT environments of today,” the Market Note said.

At the same time, Acronis Notary blockchain-based data certification helps users to ensure authenticity of data.

“IDC is intrigued by the application of blockchain technology in the field of data protection,” the Market Note said. “Blockchain, by its very nature, is immutable and tamper-proof, ensuring it complies with regulations and, in Notary's case, even ensuring validity of recovery.”

A simple mobile-enabled web interface brings it all together. Acronis puts tremendous focus on user experience. Features such as easy three-click installation, customizable dashboards and quick insights across multiple infrastructures are appreciated by thousands of businesses that use Acronis Backup 12.5 for their entire infrastructure.

GDPR compliance

Market Note says: "With Backup 12.5, Acronis has the potential to address the backup, recovery, and data protection challenges that European enterprises face in terms of GDPR, the changing threat landscape, and hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructures."

Companies dealing with European customers are feeling the pressure to make their data more available and secure for end users. That goal calls for a modern approach to data protection and Acronis delivers.

Acronis Backup 12.5 supports multiple cloud platforms and virtual infrastructures. Its automated data protection capabilities, fast data recovery, quick insights across infrastructure, easy-to-use dashboards, and ability to select data storage location will help businesses ensure they are meeting their required compliance levels.
