Faster Global Internet Speeds Good News for Cloud Users
Today’s internet speeds worldwide are 30 percent faster on average than last year, according to the recently published November 2017 Speedtest Global Index from Ookla, a global broadband speed test company that operates the famous speedtest.net website.
Which country has the fastest fixed broadband internet? Acronis’ home country — Singapore. With its focus on building the world’s first Smart Nation, it firmly holds onto the top position with an impressive 153.85Mbps download and 166.24Mbps upload speed.
Iceland and Hong Kong (SAR) swapped places in the last 12 months, as the Nordic nation took second place with an amazing 147.51Mbps, followed by Hong Kong’s 133.94Mbps average download speed.
The United States took the 12th spot with 75.94Mbps. The United Kingdom landed in 26th place with 50.90Mbps, while Germany took 27th place with 48.59Mbps, Australia was 53rd with 26.21Mbps, and Algeria, which closed the list, placed 133rd with a mere 3.76Mbps fixed broadband download speed.
Regardless of the location, faster broadband speed is good news for cloud users. Even tiny increases in upload and download speeds make a huge difference for services like backup and disaster recovery, given the amount of transferred data. It also helps small business and home users improve efficiencies when using cloud-based services.
For those who still worry about the size of their initial full-image backup, there is initial seeding, which allows Acronis Backup Cloud customers to physically ship their first backup directly to their service provider, who then copies it to the Acronis Cloud on their behalf.
Better internet speed indirectly contributes to the growing popularity of Acronis cloud-based solutions. In October, we reported a 10X YoY growth of Acronis Access Advanced Enterprise Find Sync & Share (EFSS) service, and more than a 10X growth of Acronis Backup Cloud billings between Q1-Q3 2017.
Anticipating additional market growth, we launched a new Acronis Cyber Cloud platform to give Acronis partners and service providers a groundbreaking opportunity to offer multiple data protection services from a single interface, under a single contract. Acronis Cyber Cloud is easy, because of its integration with most major Processional Services Automation (PSA) systems, including Autotask, ConnectWise, cPanel, and Plesk.
Yet Acronis Cyber Cloud services are not the only solutions that benefit from the improved broadband speed. Our enterprise grade products such as Acronis Backup 12.5 Standard and Acronis Backup 12.5 Advanced also come with a native connection to the Acronis cloud, providing easy, fast, and reliable protection for more than 20 different platforms.
Regardless of your company’s size or the complexity of your IT environment, Acronis has a data protection solution that’s right for you and your business. Visit www.acronis.com for more information or contact an Acronis partner near you.
