Acronis Disk Director Suite lets you resize partitions as needed

If there is enough free space on the disk drive, space not already being used by data or programs, you can resize partitions on disks running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Linux, or any other supported operating system. This holds true even if the space has been formatted for a different operating system.

Resizing a partition is easy with Acronis Disk Director because of the advanced features that protect your data, and automate creating a partition, and moving data to a new partition.

  • Use Acronis Disk Director Suite's visualization tool to determine how much space you have left on the disk and how the partitions are set up.
  • Decide how much space you want to add to the selected partition and which partitions you want to take the space from.
  • Allow enough space. For performance reasons, you want to keep your partitions less than 80% full. Choose the size of your new and existing partitions accordingly.
  • Tell Acronis Disk Director to resize the partitions, decreasing the size of the donor partitions and increasing the size of the target partition.

If you have a partition on the disk you decide you don't need any more, such as an old Windows 98 partition with programs you no longer use or need, you can use Acronis Disk Director Suite to delete partitions completely, freeing up more space for your full partitions and leaving the other partitions alone. Deleting partitions doesn't necessarily mean losing the data. You can use Acronis True Image disk imaging software to transfer the information to CDs to keep it available in case you ever need it again.

Acronis recommends you to back up your system before you resize partitions. Although Acronis Disk Director Suite contains many features to protect your data, backing up hard disk partitions with Acronis True Image is easy, fast and inexpensive.
