Weir Group struggles with consequences of ransomware attack

Scottish engineering company Weir Group, who employs over 11,000 people in 50 countries, has disclosed that they are still fighting to fully recover from a ransomware attack that happened in September.

While the attack was not fully successful, it still led to significant disruptions in both shipments and manufacturing. Some of the Weir Group's IT infrastructure was shut down as soon as the attack was detected, including the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

The company saw a revenue deferral of £50 million in September as a result of this attack, and investigation into the full scope of the breach is still ongoing at this time.
