Acronis Joins Project to Build Schools in Remote Villages in Myanmar

Availability of educational facilities and resources in rural regions of Myanmar ensures equitable access to education for all children.

SINGAPORE - MYANMAR, November 16, 2017 - Acronis, a global leader in hybrid cloud data protection is proud to announce that jointly with European non-governmental organization Stiftunglife it opened a general education school for 150 children in a remote village in Myanmar, some 200 km North of the country's capital Naypyidaw. The school will provide education facilities for kindergarten to grade four children as part of the Branch High School in the village of Ata, Kyauk Padaung Township.

The new Acronis School is part of a long-term community development effort lead by Stiftunglife. Acronis plans to continue its support of the organization by offering to build more schools in the future.

Yesterday, at the opening ceremony in Ata, attended by Acronis co-founder and CEO Serg Bell, village officials and community members, the school ownership was unconditionally transferred to the village. The school will also receive new teachers provided by the state.

Ata is a home to about 500 families, with more than 400 school-age children. Due to the lack of school buildings, many of these children had been studying outdoors with exposure to wind and rain. The new school provided permanent shelter, washrooms, and the much needed education stability to local families.

Primary school is critical for Myanmar children as it is the only compulsory education they will get. To proceed further, primary school students have to pass a series of examinations on basic academic subjects. Without proper facilities, many children in rural areas fail to achieve their life's potential. The school will help more students to achieve great results and continue education.

"We are honored to open a school in Ata and support the village authorities in providing education opportunities to local children. One of the key values at Acronis is to "never give up." We want to encourage Ata's children to study hard and never give up chasing their dreams," said Serg Bell, co-founder and CEO of Acronis.

"We welcome Acronis' support in building schools in Myanmar. With new schools, more children will have access to education, helping them to realize their life potential," said Jochen Berger, of Stiftunglife.
