Italian Mafia members arrested over alleged cybercrime activity

Over 100 Italian Mafia members have been arrested for a variety of cybercrime actions, including business email compromise (BEC) scams, SIM swapping, and phishing.

The group in question is alleged to have stolen more than $11 million using a network of shell companies and money mules. The suspects were recently arrested in Spain's Canary Islands, and have been described as having a "high degree of technicality" with their cybersecurity attacks that focused on BEC scams and CEO fraud.

While these threat actors were also allegedly responsible for many other physical crimes, this sort of cybercrime activity is no match for Acronis Cyber Protect. Its Advanced Email Security capabilities protect sensitive data and systems against phishing, spam, and BEC attacks.
