When you build a boat, you take every precaution to make sure it will always stay afloat. Once you’re on the water, you spend time enjoying the ride, not worrying when a spontaneous storm will arise.

Long periods of quiet are particularly welcome when it comes to putting backup software to the test, so it can be easy to forget your solution is always working for you. With Update 2 last fall, Acronis Backup delivered savings that went beyond “just” data to further protect users’ time and money.

With recent Updates 3 and 3.1, Acronis delivers a list of new enhancements that increase efficiency, with the strongest return on investment (ROI) and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) to date. Of course, ease-of-use and security are still of the utmost importance. Update 3 maintains a high bar on all accounts. Let’s take a closer look:

Best ROI and TCO to date

Keeping investments optimally low is a priority for all businesses. When it comes to managing backups and restoring data in a hurry, this means IT managers must balance the value of data with efforts to protect it.

With the latest updates, efficiency reigns: managers can free-up resources and improve backup with flexible allocation of storage resources. For example, users can now reserve specific tape drives for a large-file server. Using Active Directory organization units (OU) infrastructure makes conserving IT resources with dynamic group management a snap.

Improved bandwidth control also means you no longer need your calculator to prioritize backup tasks or balance the network. You can set the percentage you wish and “forget” it. Meanwhile, new agent-level scheduling means the system ensures maximum performance for simultaneous backups.

Of course, scalability is a pressing concern for businesses. We upped the ante so now users can secure up to 4,000 physical machines per Acronis Management Server. This change benefits enterprise infrastructures in particular, and saves resources for existing customers.

Full availability

No doubt businesses have long debates about the advantages and disadvantages of working with Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) versus Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). There are certainly security risks to weigh. When it comes to backup, Acronis is committed to giving you options so you can benefit from even faster restore. Update 3 delivers the ability to convert from BIOS to UEFI and vice versa via a new boot-mode recovery option for Windows.

For the first time, Acronis Backup also supports Oracle database application-aware backups on Linux machines. Users will experience more data consistency and even better recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) as a result.

Complete protection

Total protection of all systems in any environment is something that all Acronis Backup users expect. Acronis continues to lead the competition, securing more operating systems and hypervisors than any other solution – and now we’re the first backup solution to protect VMware 6.7. In addition, Update 3 adds five other systems to the list, including: Linux kernel 4.12 - 4.15, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5, Ubuntu 17.10, 18.04, Debian 9.3, 9.4, Oracle Linux 7.4, 7.5.

Our engineers have also solicited feedback and heightened security measures via password expiration control, last-login notification and forced logouts.

Faster backups for Linux

You may be wondering if it is even possible for our solution to get any faster, especially with demands on IT systems growing by the second. Turns out … it is. Acronis engineers added a multi-volume snapshot backup option, which ensures quick and consistent data backup for Linux.

Final thought

Data protection solutions must continue to evolve given the modern threats we face. Hopefully with the right backup solution in place, those threats are fewer and further between – with no meaningful impact when a data loss event does occur. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to easy, efficient, secure cyber protection with the latest enhancements. After all, delivering a complete solution that’s ready for anything is our benchmark for success.

We invite you to test Acronis Backup in your own environment, with no restrictions, free for 30 days.
