Stargate digital standardizes on Acronis True Image for fail-safe disaster recovery

BURLINGTON, Mass., January 29, 2008 - Stargate Digital, an Emmy Award-winning visual effects company, has standardized on disk imaging backup and recovery software from Acronis EMEA (www.acronis.com/en-eu/) as part of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan.

Due to the extensive amount of custom software running everywhere on its network, Stargate Digital needed a way to restore to a completely configured system easily and reliably and to migrate systems between Windows and Linux. With Acronis True Image Enterprise Server 9.1, Stargate Digital can quickly capture a hardware image and, using the Acronis Universal Restore feature, restore it to dissimilar hardware — a fast and easy way to ensure information is always available. The company's IT staff now has an up-to-date "snapshot" of its systems at the ready for reliable recovery should catastrophe strike while its crews are shooting around the world.

"To produce exceptional visual effects on time and on budget, our network must be up all of the time," said Dr. Joseph Meier, CTO of Stargate Digital. "Hardware failover using redundant and hot-standby systems are only part of the equation; a truly reliable software recovery system is equally important. Acronis exceeded our expectations with its performance and ease of use."

The Stargate IT staff uses Acronis software to make differential snapshots of the OS, which allows them to easily undo the effects of deploying faulty software. They have also been able to get double duty from some of their render drones and can switch OSes and applications between Linux and Microsoft Windows in less than 6 minutes.

Meier continued, "Our IT department looked at a variety of well-known backup and recovery solutions, and Acronis emerged as the clear winner. After looking at the entire product line, we were won over by the software's ease of use, reliability and its features. Particularly Universal Restore and how fast this software can move a configured system to totally disparate hardware."

"Acronis True Image plays a vital role in Stargate's IT infrastructure," said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Our software works seamlessly and unobtrusively with their systems so that their creative artists can focus on what they do best - delivering awarding winning visual effects to clients worldwide."
