Clients

As a service provider, you manage many customers, and often partners that have customers of their own. The Clients page gives you one view of all the tenants below you, and of the users in them, however large your hierarchy is.

You work with every tenant from your own user account. You open the details of a tenant directly, without impersonation. The page is also where you change the current tenant, which is the tenant that is selected in the tenant selector. For example, you move from a partner to one of its customers, or from a customer to one of its units.

How you work with clients

  • Onboard a new customer. Create the tenant, its administrator, and its services on one page. To set up a customer like an existing one, clone the configuration of that customer. See Creating a tenant. Then add users, and start offering trials, so that the customer can try more offerings. See Creating a user and Offering trials.

  • Find a client fast, even in a large customer base. Search, filter, and sort the client list, and select the columns that you need. See Finding and customizing the client list.

  • Move through your hierarchy. Go down from a partner to its customers, and up again. See Navigating the tenant hierarchy.

  • Keep each client set up correctly. View and change the profile, services, users, and settings of a tenant. See Client details.

  • Act on many clients at once. Run one action, for example to move or disable tenants, on up to 100 tenants or users together. See Managing tenants and Managing users.

Tenants and clients

A tenant is any node in the hierarchy. A client is a company that you manage as a business relationship. Every client is a tenant, but not every tenant is a client. The hierarchy has the following tenant types:

  • Partner – a client that manages its own tenants below it in the hierarchy.

  • Folder – a tenant that only groups other tenants. A folder has no assets and no users, and it is not a client.

  • Customer – a client that can have units, users, and assets.

  • Unit – a subdivision inside a customer. A unit is a tenant, but not a client.

The client list shows all four tenant types, one row per tenant.

You can create partner tenants below your partner tenant only if partner creation is enabled for your account under a special partnership model. This model is for partners that have their own downstream partner structure. To group tenants by brand, country, region, department, or business unit, use folders instead of partner tenants.

Pricing mode, billing mode, and offering trials

Three different settings describe how a tenant pays and what it can try.

Setting What it applies to Values
Pricing mode The whole tenant. You select it when you create a customer. Production or Trial
Billing mode The service configuration of the tenant. A customer or a unit has one billing mode. A partner or a folder can have more than one billing mode. The billing modes that the services of the tenant offer
Offering trial One eligible offering of a customer in the Production pricing mode, for a limited time Available, In trial, or Ended

For example, you can start an offering trial for a customer in the Production pricing mode for an offering that it has not used yet. The pricing mode of the customer does not change. A customer in the Trial pricing mode has no offering trials.

What you see by role

The tenants, data, and actions that you see depend on your role and on your permissions:

  • As a partner administrator, you see and manage the whole hierarchy below your partner tenant.

  • As a customer administrator, you see only your own customer and its units. The partner hierarchy and the partner actions do not appear.

  • As a read-only user, you see only the data that your read permissions grant, and you cannot change anything.

The ellipsis menu in the row of a tenant and the details of the tenant show only the actions that are available for the tenant type and the tenant status. In the bulk actions bar, an action that does not apply to the selected tenants is unavailable.

The status of a tenant also limits what you can do:

  • Deleted tenants appear only in the client list. They do not appear in the tenant selector, and you cannot open their details.

  • Tenants with the Disabled status stay in the client list. The status limits the actions that you can perform.

  • If a tenant is in the Self-service management mode, you cannot view its details or its child tenants.
