Acronis True Image Now Writes Directly To DVDs Without Extra Software

May 23, 2006, Burlington, MA — Acronis, Inc., the technological leader in storage management software, announced that effective immediately, all Windows versions of Acronis True Image software (Home Ver. 9.0; Workstation Ver. 9.1, Server for Windows Ver. 9.1; Enterprise Server Ver. 9.1) now supports direct writing to DVDs. Acronis True Image Server for Linux cannot write directly to DVDs without a kernel patch.

Supported formats include: DVD+R, DVR+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, and DVD+R Dual-Layer is fully supported; DVD-R Dual-Layer is not supported.

The entire process is completely transparent — just put a blank DVD disk into the drive and you can save your image to that disk without any additional software. As for limitations, DVD burning is not supported in Windows 9x, so as a result, burned DVDs can't be read in Windows 9x. Write-once DVD discs can't be read in Windows NT 4 without third-party software.

This is a product update only, not a version upgrade. Registered users of the current versions of Acronis True Image can download a new build of their software for free to obtain this new capability. All Acronis product updates can be found at http://www.acronis.eu/enterprise/support/updates/
