Canadian energy firm Suncor suffers cyberattack

A cyberattack on Suncor Energy, a major Canadian energy company, impacted payment operations at Petro-Canada gas stations across Canada. Customers at the affected stations were unable to use credit card rewards points to complete their purchases.

With an annual revenue of $44.973 billion, Suncor Energy is a leading supplier of integrated energy in Canada and the U.S. The firm is involved in oil sand development, production, upgrading, offshore oil and gas, and petroleum refining. It also owns the Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks.

Suncor launched an investigation with the help of third-party experts and informed the appropriate authorities. Petro-Canada reported issues with its Petro-Points program on its app and website, and several customers shared payment problems on Twitter.
