Gigabyte hit with second ransomware attack in three months

Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Gigabyte, known for its computer motherboards, has apparently fallen victim to AvosLocker ransomware. This is the second such incident in three months for the company.

The AvosLocker group published 15 MB of stolen data as proof of their success. This drop contained passwords and usernames, employee payroll details, passport scans, and signed NDAs with customers, among other information. Back in August, another ransomware group by the name of RansomExx infiltrated Gigabyte and stole 112 GB of data.

Cyberattacks happen with blinding speed and frequency, and if a business doesn't plug their security gaps, they are at serious risk of a repeat incident. Acronis Cyber Protect delivers award-winning cyber protection and can create forensic backups with full memory dumps, allowing investigators to do a deep root-cause analysis and apply any lessons learned.
