Magniber ransomware hiding in fake Windows updates

A massive malware campaign has been distributing Magniber ransomware, disguised as Microsoft Windows updates.

This campaign, distributing the fake updates from warez and cracked software sites, is affecting users around the world. It appears to be targeting students and other consumers, rather than large organizations. The average ransom demand is for the equivalent of $2,500 in Bitcoin.

The patch management capabilities included in Acronis Cyber Protect ensure that you're only installing official updates, while the Active Protection guards you against ransomware that may be installed if you do install software from an unapproved source.
