Ransomware grounds flights at Indian airline SpiceJet

SpiceJet, the Indian budget airline, was recently hit by a ransomware attack that impacted flight operations.

In addition to flight delays, some customers reported that online systems — such as check-in — were not working. SpiceJet had previously suffered a data breach two years ago, when an unencrypted backup of a database with 1.2 million customer records was left exposed on the internet.

SpiceJet is India's second-largest airline by number of domestic passengers carried. The company has  more than 14,000 employees and a fleet of 102 aircraft serving 60+ destinations.
