Verizon Data Breach Report shows sharp increase in malware

The 2022 Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report is out, and it covers investigations into 23,896 cybersecurity incidents that occurred in 2021.

One of the top annual cybersecurity reports, the DBIR has become a favorite of security pros around the world. The findings in this year's report, while not entirely unexpected, should be cause for concern.

In 2021, 38.6% of attacks were system intrusion attacks, which include hacking, ransomware and other forms of malware. About 20.6% of attacks were the result of social engineering, including phishing attacks in which victims were coerced into entering their user credentials into malicious forms.

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud keeps your data safe with multiple detection engines that stop ransomware and other cyberthreats from executing, as well as simple-to-use backup and disaster recovery functionalities to restore normal operations quickly after an attack. The available Advanced Email Security pack takes things one step further by intelligently identifying and blocking malicious messages, including phishing attacks, before they can even reach users' inboxes.
