Are SSDs in the Same League with HDDs When it Comes to Data Recovery?
Solid-state drives (SSDs) have solved many of the problems that have historically plagued hard-disk drives (HDDs), particularly when it comes to sudden mechanical failures and longevity. In fact according to tests of a Samsung 850 Evo, the official estimates show that if you write 20GB on it every day, this SSD will last for up to 187 years. Can SSDs really replace HDDs? Let’s not forget, HDDs are first introduced in 1956 by IBM, more than 60 years ago. So let’s look and see if SSDs are as reliable as they are advertised.

Free up Space on Your Smartphone Without Losing Photos
Remember “The Best Camera Is The One That's With You” from a visionary photographer Chase Jarvis? In this beautiful photographic journal covering a year in his life, Jarvis underscores the idea that an inspiring moment can be captured by any camera, even a mobile phone. This trend is in full swing. More than a third of the world’s population now own a smartphone, which means 2.2 billion people will be capturing their inspiring moments with a mobile phone this year. In fact, market research firm InfoTrends says that 85 percent of the 1.2 trillion new photos projected for 2017 will be taken on smartphones. This week, many of those images will be capturing the excitement of the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. If the turnout is similar to 2016, more than 250 thousand people will bring their smartphones to the Circuit of the Americas this weekend, looking for a perfect shot of their favorite driver, team car, or attending celebrity.

New Engine in the Car — New Servers in the Datacenter
Changing power units in racing cars is not uncommon. For Scuderia Toro Rosso it’ll be the third change in as many years. Last year they used Ferrari. This year it’s Renault. Next year, the power unit will come from Japan. The Faenza-based team recently signed a new agreement with Honda, and in the words of Team Principal Franz Tost, Toro Rosso expects “to get out a lot on the design side as well as from the cooperation.” While the media have a field day discussing the news, Acronis spoke to Raffaele Boschetti, who heads the IT at Scuderia Toro Rosso, about what’s involved in getting ready for a new engine supplier. With everything relying on data, it was only appropriate to start with IT.
